DON GIOVANNI
Two cultures meet: one is local: the Mediterranean culture of ancient Acre, and the other is Mozart's classical Austrian culture. These too meet in Dedi Baron's modern interpretation: Don Givoanni is a rock star, and Leporello, his servant, constantly documents him on camera.
Much of the video footage was done with nonlocal actors, filmed in a studio we created on the Israeli opera stage. The characters changed their faces into animal faces, blurring their original identity.
The video is about megalomaniac documentation. It creates reflexive moments that break the common interpretation of this wonderful opera.
