Die Entführung aus dem Serai
A three-act singspiel opera composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
The hero of the opera is Belmonte, who, with the aid of his servant Pedrillo, attempts to rescue his beloved Konstanze from the seraglio.
The opera was held in the knight halls of Acre: a castle built by the Ottoman, who used it as a palace of the local rulers. It was built on the ruins of one of the crusader's abbeys.
Even though the castle is adjacent to the sea, one cannot see it because of the high walls. In our video artwork interpretation, we visualized the seraglio like water: something delicate, transparent, and nice, that can become suffocating and deadly any minute.
The photoshoot was done in an especially deep pool in Kibbutz Yakum, which we coated with black fabric. The costume department of the opera sewed us light clothing which moved lightly and slowly in water. We collaborated with the Israeli synchronized swimming team and created moments out of the sounds of Amadeus Mozart.
